Chancellor Ahagotu, a student of the Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta, Georgia, USA was certified to hold the Guinness world record for a painting marathon after painting for 100 consecutive hours.
The previous record was set by a Belgian painter named Roland Palmaerts who painted for 60 consecutive hours in 2013.
As a rule for breaking the record, Chancellor was allowed to paint only images that were discernible as abstract painting was not allowed. He made 106 art works in the cause of this record.
In an interview with Guinness world record he said
“One thing I love about the paintings I created is that they were representing my different moods and how I was feeling when I created them,”
Before attempting the record, Chancellor had said he came to the United States to pursue and build up his career as a recognized artist and after breaking the record, he mentioned feeling a very high level of personal achievement and he knew he had built up his career as a reputable artist.
The record breaking stride dubbed “Paint-A-Thon follows a trend of record breaking frenzy that started when Nigerian cook Hilda Bacci broke the now broken record for the longest cooking marathon last year with her Cook-A-Thon.
We expect to see more Nigerians breaking records this year hopefully.
