The Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD), also known as the German Academic Exchange Service, is Germany’s leading organization for international academic cooperation. It offers scholarships to foreign graduates from all disciplines with a minimum of two years of professional experience, enabling them to pursue postgraduate or master’s degrees at state or state-recognized universities in Germany.

DAAD Scholarship 2025: Value

The scholarships are tailored to the academic level of the recipients, offering monthly stipends of €934 (Rs 85,000) for graduates and €1,300 (Rs 1,19,000) for doctoral candidates. In addition, the scholarship covers health, accident, and personal liability insurance.

Moreover, recipients may receive a travel allowance unless these costs are covered by their home country or another funding source. Under certain conditions, additional benefits such as a monthly rent subsidy and an allowance for accompanying family members are also available.

The scholarship duration varies from 12 to 42 months, depending on the chosen study program.

Applicants are required to hold a bachelor’s degree, which is typically a four-year program in a relevant field, and have a minimum of two years of professional experience.

The scholarship supports a wide range of postgraduate courses, including Master’s programs in International and Development Economics (MIDE), MSc Development Economics, Development Management, Geography of Environmental Risks and Human Security, and PhD opportunities such as the PhD in Medical Research International Health, Bonn International Graduate School for Development Research (BIGS-DR), and the PhD in Resource Nexus for Sustainability Transformations (NEXtra). Additionally, it covers specialized fields like the Master of Science in International Health (Berlin), Master of Science in Global Urban Health, Master of Laws in Intellectual Property and Competition Law, International Media Studies, and more.
